Moby Dick by scumbugg Moby Dick by scumbugg
The classic final scene from Herman Melville's Moby Dick. I tried to cram as much of the symbolism in as the composition would allow. I even worked in the coffin Ismael clings to for survival.

That is evidently the actual coin that Ahab nailed to the ship's mast. I did my research on this one!

The soundtrack was supplied by none other than Mastodon, with their album Leviathan. No surprise there, haha.

Microns & Watercolors.

Edit: This is currently available as a giclee print over at www.Matt-Verges.com.

And now available on shirts and cellphone cases over at Design By Humans. Thanks!

I will gladly let the artist correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is the coin that Ahab nailed to the mast of the ship. The coin was promised to whichever man first spotted Moby Dick.

This is so great. I'm actually working, not even on DA, and I wanted to look at some visual references for Moby-Dick on google, and this came up! Moby-Dick is my favorite novel, maybe my favorite anything, and this is a great evocation. Have you seen the Rockwell Kent illustrations? How about this recent "Moby-Dick In Pictures"?
Anyway, I'll come back to your galleries when I'm not in the middle of something...

Have you read William T Vollmann's Melville essay? Volmann is almost the only writer I know of who can climb to the heights necessary to scale Melville.
Is there any way you could sent me a photo of your 1930? I would LOVE to see it. noir.steve@gmail.com
